Norman R. Smith
Norman R. Smith was born on Morrisana Mesa, Grand Valley, Colo., on April 10, 1930, in his grandparents' farm house. He died in Kingman on Monday, April 29, 2013, at the age of 83.
Norman is survived by two children, Audrey Blomberg of Marysville, Wash., and Stephen Smith of Houston, Texas; and three siblings, Stanley Smith, Elaine Plumb and Carolyn Smith. Norman survived his parents, Kenneth R. Smith and Laverne Lucille Mead; and three siblings, Lucille Fay Smith, Wilbur Lee Smith and Marvin Ross Smith.
He attended a one-room, one-teacher schoolhouse for eight years, attended Lincoln School in Grand Junction, Colo., for one year then graduated from Grand Junction Central in 1948. Norman attended Mesa Junior College in Grand Junction. He had several odd jobs before going to Denver, where he worked in a machine shop. He was drafted in 1951, where he served a tour in the Korean Conflict. He attended Machinist school while in the Army. He returned to Denver after being discharged to continue the machinist career. After leaving the army and working for several different companies in the Denver area, he started his own machine shop business.
He got involved in local politics and working with the seniors' groups in Colorado.
He enjoyed retirement by sightseeing, photography, visiting with friends, and going 4-wheeling. He moved to Kingman permanently in 2010.
