Obituary of Lois Virginia Downs
Please share a memory of Lois to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Lois V. Downs passed away Monday, March 16, 2015 at the age of 81. Lois was born in Los Angeles, CA to Edwin and Rosamond French, followed by 2 brothers, John French and Glen French. Lois grew up in Montebello and graduated from Montebello High School in 1952. She married Ernest Wetzel in 1952 at the Santa Barbara Mission. They had 3 children, David, Karen and Denise. Lois was tragically widowed in 1970. Lois married Richard Downs in 1978. Lois and Richard loved living on their ranch in Paso Robles, CA until his passing in 2007. Amazingly, Lois passed the same date as Richard, exactly 8 years later.
Lois is survived by her son, David (Judi) Wetzel; her daughter, Denise (Bill) Tuminaro; 2 beloved step-daughters, Debra (Richard) Richardson, and Julie (Danny) Montes; her brothers, John (Judy) French, and Glen (Joyce) French. Lois tragically lost her daughter, Karen Snell, son-in-law, Darryl and infant grandson, Darryl Jr. in 1980. Lois is also pre-deceased by her step-daughter, Deanna Wesley. Lois is survived by 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren with her 12th great- grandchild on the way.
In 2013, after partial recovery from a debilitating stroke, Lois moved to Lake Havasu City with David and Judi for medical care. While in Lake Havasu City, Lois volunteered at Hospice of Havasu and the Lake Havasu Cancer Center where she met her dear friend, Bobbi Hobbs, a fellow volunteer. The family extends deepest thanks to Bobbi for her compassion and guidance as well as being by Lois' side until the end. We will miss you so much, Mom and Grandma.
