Obituary of Joan Rita Hansen

Joan Hansen passed away on March 19, 2015, at the age of 88. Joan Rita Baer was born to John J. and Isabel Tucker Baer on August 18, 1926 in San Diego, California. Her father was in the U.S. Navy, so Joan lived in many places as a child, including towns in Oregon and Washington. The family returned to San Diego, where Joan married Garth Joseph Hansen in 1949. He predeceased her in 1996. She and Garth had six children, all of whom survive her: John (Karren) Hansen of Lake Havasu City, Arizona; Keith (Joanne) Hansen of Lebanon, Missouri; Glen (Nina) Hansen, of Spring Valley, California; Ellen Hansen of Emporia, Kansas; Karl (Cathy) Hansen, of Escondido, California; and Mark (Arleen) Hansen of Lake Havasu City. Joan and Garth had 33 grandchildren and 52 great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she was a long-time volunteer at the Family History Center in Escondido. She served a mission for the Church at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah from 1998 to 2000. Joan and Garth were also active members of the Wranglers Square Dance Club and the Huggy Bunch Camping Club in San Diego County for many years from the 1970's to the 1990's. She lived in Lebanon, Missouri from 2006 to 2013, when she moved to Lake Havasu City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Joan Hansen to Veterans of Foreign Wars (http://www.vfwfoundation.org/get-involved) or the National Parkinson Foundation (http://www.parkinson.org/Donation-Options.aspx).
