Judge Nelson Meringola, 30 year resident of Lake Havasu City, passed away on May 9, 2013. He was born March 5, 1933 to Dominic and Florence (Bennett) Meringola in Huntington, New York.
Nelson and wife, Miriam, moved from Southhampton, Long Island. They first visited on a McCulloch flight in 1973. Nelson and Miriam participated with Toys for Tots, Boys and Girls Club and the Cancer Society. He was a member of Kiwanis and known for construction of the "Barn" on Lake Havasu Ave and the Bridgeview Building which has now been replaced by the CVS pharmacy.
Nelson was a Police Chaplin from 1986-1997 and as Associate Magistrate for greater than 14 years in the Lake Havasu City Municipal courts. He was greatly respected for his wise counsel and professional interventions that positively influenced many individuals and families.
Nelson's career spans decades of government work, Union projects and private construction activities. He has flown planes, helicopters, driven race cars, DJ for his own radio show, sung country western and gospel at the Grand Ole Opry. He was a faithful member and Elder of Lakeview Community Church.
Nelson is survived by his wife, Miriam, of 41 years; his son Brian Meringola of Southhampton, Long Island; daughters Pamela and Penny of Patchogue, Long Island; step-daughters Linda Lockhart of Charlotte, NC and Teddi Zaluski of Watermill, Long Island; three sisters, 15 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 18, 2013 @ 2 pm at Lakeview Community Church, 1699 Acoma Blvd West, Lake Havasu City, AZ. Pastor Dale Ray will officiate. The public is welcome.
