Mildred Josephine James, resident of Lake Havasu City, Arizona died July 2, 2003 at age 93. She was born in Northwood, North Dakota on February 15, 1910, the daughter of Anna and Carl Gransberg.Mildred graduated as Valedictorian of her class at the Northwood High School. She received her college education at the Mayville State University, Mayville, North Dakota and the University of North Dakota. She was an elementary school teacher for three years and later pursued the business field as a Credit Manager for the Aslesen Company in Minneapolis, Minnesota.She was the wife of Dr. William J. James and lived in Bemidji, Minnesota until 1977 when they moved to Lake Havasu City.While a resident of Bemidji, Minnesota, she was very active in her church and served on many church boards. She was a member of the Benevolent Patriotic Order of Does and held the office of local president of that organization and also served as their Minnesota State President. She was a member of the Eastern Star, a lifetime member of the National Congress of Parents and Teacher, a Past President of the Ladies Division of the Bemidji Town and Country Club, a past President o the Happy Niners Golf Association at the London Bridge Golf Club, Lake Havasu City, Arizona and a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Lake Havasu.Surviving Mildred are two sons, David Quammen of Wayzata, Minn. and John K. Quammen of Lake Havasu City, Ariz; a step-son, Michael James of Phoenix, Ariz; a step-daughter, Sandra Oliverson of Houston, Tex; two granddaughters, Kirsten and Jennifer; three sisters, Ms. Joe Norman of Altadena, Calif, Ms. Robert Grissinger of Edina, Minn. and Ms. Charles Christianson of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina and six step-grandchildren.She was preceded in by her husband, Dr. William James, her parents, Mr. and Ms. Gransberg; two brothers, A.T. Gransberg and C.C. Gransberg of Billings, Mont; sisters Delihe Groth and Stella Brunsvold.Memorials in her name will go to Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 2170 Havasupai Blvd., Lake Havasu City, Arizona 86403.Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements with burial of her remains at the Mount Olive Lutheran Church Columbarium beside her husband, Dr. W.J. James.
