LeRoy M. Hausauer, 82, passed away September 24, 2002 in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. He was born April 12, 1920 in Ortonville, Minnesota to Andrew & Florence Hasuauer."Roy" moved to Lake Havasu 2 years ago from Vining, Minnesota. He was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church, VFW, the Eagles and the American Legion.Mr. Hausauer was a legislator for the State of North Dakota in Bismark for 28 years. His entire legislative career was served on the appropriation committee with the exception of the 49th session when he was speaker of the house. He was chairman of the Legislative Council for 10 years. His leadership ability was recognized by the legislative majority leaders, naming him to serve as chairman of various key interim committees. He was chairman of the Council of State Governments Midwest Conference 1979 - 1980. He was national chairman of the Council of State Governments in 1984. That year he also received the Summit Conference National Legislation Award and the North Dakota National Leadership Award of Excellence during Gov. George Sinner's administration.In 1983 he received the Legislator of the Year Award from the National Republican Legislators Association and recognition from President Reagan. Minot State University gave him the C. P. Lara Award for Distinguished Service to Education in 1991.Roy was also a proud veteran in the US Army from 1949 to 1954. He survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Marion Hausauer of Lake Havasu; son, Joseph Hausauer of Marco Island, Florida; daughter, Janis Burke of Yakima, Washington; stepchildren, Terry Hoffman of Vail, Colorado and Steve Hoffman of Fargo, North Dakota and also four grandchildren.A memorial service will be held at a later date in North Dakota.Arrangements were made by Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home.
