Raymond L. "Tex" Melton, 84, passed away January 16, 2003. He was born on January 18, 1918 to Robert & Ada (Savage) Melton.A Lake Havasu City resident for 25 years. Mr. Melton was born in Lorena, Oklahoma and raised in Texas. He was a United States Marine from 1936 to 1940 and a member of the United States Army from 1942 to 1946. He served in the European Theatre during World War II.Mr. Melton served in the Los Angeles City Fire Department from 1948 to 1973, and for a portion of that time was responsible for all fire fighting apparatus acquired by the L.A.F.D. During those years he was honored for providing numerous improvements and innovations for both ladder trucks and fire fighting pumpers.Mr. Melton is survived by his wife of 62 years, tte (Lyons) Melton, his son, Conrad Melton, duaghter-in-law, Judi (Batt) Melton, daughter Carol Chester and grandchildren, Jordan Melton and Rachelle Melton. A daughter, Crystal Melton and a grandson Conrad Chester preceded Mr. Melton in .Services will be held at Lake Havasu Memorial Gardens on Sunday, January 19, 2003 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the "Widows, Orphans and Disabled Firemen's Fund", 2900 W. Temple Street, Los Angeles, California 90026.Arrangements were entrusted to Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home.
