Joseph Alton DuPont Jr. passed away at his home after a brief illness. Joe was born in Hartford, CT; on August 9th, 1940 to Joseph A. DuPont Sr. and Ethel (Hirsch) DuPont.He grew up in South Windsor, CT; and was a resident of Lake Havasu City, AZ; for the past 15 years. He attended Hartford Regional Technical School in Hartford, CT; specializing in electricity. Joe served in the U.S. Army for 6 years, worked at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, testing jet engines, was a patrolman on the South Windsor CT. Police Department, a service technician for Hobart Sales and Services in Burlington, VT; and worked in the elevator industry as a service mechanic for 30 years. His elevator career began in Hartford, CT; Local 9l. He retired from Thyssen-Dover Elevator in Phoenix, AZ; Local 140 in July of 1999. After his retirement he worked for Mesquite Car Wash and Lakeview Mobile Home Park.Joe was a husband, father and grandfather who worked tirelessly for his family, and he was well respected by his friends and associates. He actively participated in his children's interests as they were growing up. He worked with the Cub Scouts, Midget Football and Junior s Softball.In Lake Havasu he helped build Sara Park Raceway and with his son Jay, served as the safety crew on race nights. He played the Men's Sr. Softball and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and was an honorary member of the International Union of Elevator Constructors.Joe is survived by his wife of 41 years Judy, son Joseph A. DuPont III and wife Mary of Conifer, CO; daughter Lisa Bakken and husband Oddvar of Granby, CO; son Jay DuPont and friend Lori Kinchloe of Chandler, Az. He is also survived by a brother Alton DuPont and his wife Pat of Lake Wales, FL; and grandchildren Matthew DuPont of the U.S. Navy, Brian DuPont of Conifer, CO; Joseph Binan of Aurora, CO; Dylan DuPont of Lake Havasu City, AZ; Cheyenne Siders and Paul Siders of Del City, OK; and Jessica Bradley of Vergennes, VT; Other survivors include serveral aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in by his parents and brother Donald DuPont.A private funeral service conducted by Hospice Chaplain Dick Rounds was held at our home for the immediate family.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Joe's name to Hospice of Havasu, P.O. Box 597, 365 S. Lake Havasu Ave., Lake Havasu City, Az. 86405.Arrangements were made by Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home.
