Donald George Dubbins 84, passed away in Avondale, Arizona on February 9th, 2003. He was born on July 23rd, 1918 in London, England to William George Dubbins and Caroline Charlotte (Burton) Dubbins.Don was employed by Goodyear Aerospace for 23 years as a Senior Designer in Goodyear, Arizona. He was a proud veteran of WWII in the US Army Air Corps. He was inducted at Ft. Hays, Columbus, Ohio on June 1941. Assigned to Tucson Army Air Base (now Davis-Monthan) Army Air Corps 31st Service Group as a photographer, aerial and ground. Second station: Muroc Army Air Base (now Edwards) with rank of staff sergeant. Entered Aviation Cadet CTD, Arizona State Teachers College (now Arizona State University). Preflight, Tulare, California. Primary, Tex Rankin Air Academy, Tulare, California. Basic at Tulare, California. Advance, Pecos, Texas, second Lieutenant. B-17 transition: Hobbs, New Mexico. B-29 OTU Walker, Kansas. Overseas: North Field, Guam: 21 missions over Japan: 314th Wing: 330th BG: 458th Squadron. Aircraft: K-38. Ernie Pyle. Pilot-first lieutenant. After peace came, they took a B-29, the Waltzing Matilda with a crew of 12 to Australia for their Victory Bond Tour. In 42 days, they visited 19 Australian cities including Hobart, Tasmania. Was discharged December 7th, 1945. He moved to Arizona from Albuquerque, New Mexico 37 years ago.Don is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Barbara J. (Harrett) Dubbins of Goodyear, Arizona, son D. Timothy Dubbins and his wife Jeannette and their children, Alex, Crystal, Ashley and Kyle of Tolleson, Arizona, daughters Barbara L. Turner and her husband Don and their son Phillip of Phoenix, Arizona. Donna Lietz and her husband Walt and their children Kristen Lietz-Aldridge and her husband Mike and their son Evan, Danielle Stello and her husband Jasen and their soon to be daughter Rylie of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, brothers William Dubbins of Florida and Ronald Dubbins of Ohio.Private funeral services were held on February 11th, 2003 at 2:00 P.M. at the Messinger Pinnacle Peak Mortuary in Scottsdale, Arizona. Officiated by Hospice Chaplain Chris Van Orden.Donation can be made to Hospice Family Care 10240 W.
