Arthur (Art) Roberts, 76, of Lake Havasu City, went to be with our Lord, April 6th. Art was born November 15, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois. He was the fourth child of Mason Conroe Roberts and Corinne Blanche Magnan. He grew up in Chicago during the depression and enlisted in the military on June 8, 1944 to take part in World War II, however he couldn't be accepted for active duty until 24 November 1944, after his 18th birthday. From 1944 to 1946 Art served in the 460th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion. Art trained in Texas as an infantryman and arrived in France in April 1945. His unit landed in France six days after D-Day but took part in the Ardennes-Alsace, Central Europe, Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland Campaigns. For a time this unit was part of Patton's Army. He served in England from October to December 1945. For his service, Art received eight decorations in all, including the Victory Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, 2 overseas service bars, Army of Occupation Medal Germany and the Good Conduct Medal.Art returned home to Chicago after the war but reentered the military for the Korean War. Art served from 1950 to 1954 as a staff sergeant with the 380th, 178th and 103rd Combat Engineer Battalions. Even though Art was in the Army he said he felt like a Marine since most of his time was spent in support of the Marine forces in Korea. For his service in the Korean War, Art received the Korean Service Ribbon (with 4 Bronze Service Stars); Army Occupation Medal; 1 Overseas Bar; United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. After his discharge Art returned to Chicago. While visiting his father who worked at a nursing home, Art met Centa who also worked there. Art and Centa married on Ocotber 13, 1956. In August 1967 they took a McCulloch flight to Lake Havasu City, and in spite of the 117 degree temperature, they knew Havasu would someday be home. Around 1968 they moved to Lake Havasu City but could not find the type of work they preferred. So they returned to Chicago until they could retire from the Chicago Transit Authority, which they did in 1977. They have lived here ever since. Art's great interest were movies and baseball games.Art is survived by his loving wife, Centa and his daughters, Judy and Doris; grandchildren, Edward, Alexander and Danielle, all of Lake Havasu City and sister Jean McCullough of Chicago.A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 12, 2003 at 10:00 AM at Lietz-Fraze Chapel with Deacon Tom Coe officiating.
