Casey Glenn Koogler
May 21, 1944 - June 24, 2015
Casey Glenn Koogler passed suddenly on June 24, 2015, after an early morning bike ride in Lake Havasu City. His life began in Reedsport, Oregon, born to Willis and Faye Koogler on May 21, 1944.
His early life laid the foundation for a lifetime of sports and love of the outdoors. He was on the swim team at Reedsport High School, graduating in 1962. His studies continued at the University of Oregon, Eugene, where he earned a BA in Recreation. After serving in Vietnam as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army, his professional career began in San Francisco, managing recreational swimming programs and continued in Fairbanks, Alaska, where he was recruited to administer swimming programs and design swimming facilities. His passion led him to the Fairbanks Fire Department, where he served as a firefighter and E.M.T. for 20 years.
He was an avid sportsman, community leader and volunteer. He created several programs benefiting troubled children. A key member of the National Ski Patrol in Fairbanks and a pioneer of extreme sports including hang gliding, waterskiing, snowboarding, downhill skiing, motorcycling, and mountain biking, his enthusiasm was infectious.
He married the love of his life, Karen Lewis, in Salem, Oregon. They later retired in Lake Havasu City, where Casey pursued his passions for sailing, kayaking and cycling. Casey is survived by Karen, his son and best friend, Chris and granddaughter Casey, of Salt Lake City, his mother, Faye Daugherty, his sisters Sandria Robertson, and Nila Markeson, and several nieces and nephews.
Casey's life will be celebrated at 2:00 on Sunday, June 28, 2015, at the Church of the Nazarene, 2700 Rainbow Avenue North, Lake Havasu City.
