Kyra Rae Rickard, daughter of Marty & Shelley Rickard, was born November 3, 1982 in Ogallala, Nebraska. Kyra passed away in Honolulu, Hawaii from bacterial meningitis on June 23, 2003 after a short illness.Kyra attended school in Chambers, Nebraska through the 8th grade, moving with her parents to Lake Havasu City, Arizona in 1997, finishing high school in Arizona.In her grade school years in Chambers, she was active in her 4H Club learning sewing and archery skills.Kyra loved playing her flute and piccalo and was very active in the Lake Havasu High School Band and was the marching band drum majorette her junior and senior year. She also participated in volleyball and basketball during junior high and part of her high school years.When Kyra was 4 years old, she accepted Christ as her personal saviour. She was active in Awana Clubs through the 6th grade and was then active in Junior and Senior High Church Youth groups. She enjoyed participating in her high school youth group band where she played flute and piano and enjoyed sharing her vocal talent.Kyra had a special love for animals bringing home every unwanted pet she could. Kyra was currently working as a veterinary technician at the Kauai Veterinary Clinic in Lihue-Kauai, Hawaii.Kyra spent the last 2 years of her life in Hawaii, where she touched the lives of all those who knew her and worked with her. Her parents spent several weeks in Hawaii while Kyra was hospitalized and found she had blessed many people with her love of life, her kindness and caring spirit that she showed to everyone she met.Kyra is survived by her parents, Marty and Shelley Rickard of Lake Havasu City, Ariz; brother, Trevor Rickard of Lake Havasu City; fiancee, Gabriel Swinburnson of Kapaa, Hawaii; grandmother, Doris Rickard of Atkinson, Nebraska; grandparents, Don and Geneen Strong of Chambers, Nebraska; aunts, uncles, cousins and many many friends.Services will be held in Lake Havasu at Lakeview Community Church on July 12 at 11:00 AM and in O'Neill, Nebraska on July 26 at Faith Community Church.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Kyra's memory to Lakeview Community Church to a memorial fund for the new youth center.
