Jim was born on December 31, 1932 in Grapevine, Arkansas to Carl and Joy Wingard. He passed away on Friday, August 22, 2003 at his home in Lake Havasu City. Cancer claimed the life of this beloved husband, father and grandfather.Jim was the owner of Ed's Deli, a landmark in Lake Havasu, where he was devoted to his customers. Jim was known as the Candy Man by both young and old to whom he passed out suckers. He was also know as the "PR" man of the deli where he loved to talk to friends and customers while making a "mean hoagie".Jim loved to fish, but in recent years, his passion had turned to golf. He was a member of the London Bridge Golf Course and a perfect day would include an early morning game of golf followed by lunch at Ed's Deli.Jim is survived by his wife Barbara; daughter Phyllis, son-in-law Brad and son Tom, all of Lake Havasu City. Also surviving are three grandchildren, John and his wife Caitlein Whitehead and soon to be great grandson James Patrick of Phoenix, James D. Whitehead of Las Vegas, New Mexico and Christina Whitehead of Lake Havasu City.Jim has three surviving sisters, Jo Lynn Allen of Corvallis, Oregon, Muff Glover of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Sue Holmes and brother Dan Wingard of Hot Springs, Arkansas and their families.There will be a memorial service held at Lietz-Fraze Chapel at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, September 2 and a reception at Ed's Deli following the celebration of Jim's life.We thought of you with love today,But that is nothing new.We thought about you yesterday, And the days before that too.We think of you in silence,We often speak your name.Now all we have are memoriesAnd your pictures in frames.Your memory is our keepsake,With which we will never part.God has you in his keeping, We have you in our hearts.From all your family and friends.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Havasu, PO Box 597, Lake Havasu City, Arizona 86405 or the Special Olympics.Arrangements were entrusted to Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home.
