Obituary of Laurena WEID
Please share a memory of Laurena to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lake Havasu City has lost a true pioneer in the passing of Laurena Weid. For residents who have lived in Lake Havasu City for 20 years or longer, you may recognize her name. She was the master craftswoman of so many beautiful English costumes donned by local residents in the yearly costume contest during the early London Bridge Days. Some of them are on display at the Historical Society Museum. Not ending there, her talents extended into designing and creating prize-winning floats on a yearly basis. Two of which were privileged to represent our town in the Fiesta Bowl Parade. Laurena also had strong family bonds and was closely involved with the Lake Havasu Genealogical Society. One thing friends will fondly remember about Laurena is that she never went anywhere without her camera(s) and took hundreds of pictures. Laurena entered writing contest, and won frequently. She was a special Interest Columnist for the Herald for as long as it existed. Laurena Weid worked also as a school librarian at Smoketree School, many years ago. Her longest course of employment was that of church secretary of the United Brethren in Christ Church for almost 30 years. Laurena was loved by all, young and old, she was a friend and confidante with a good sense of humor and her love for the Lord was seen in her actions. Laurena Irene Weid, 81, was born in Berkley, IL on November 19, 1922. She died in Phoenix, AZ December 3, 2003. She is preceded in by husband of 38 years Charles Weid. Survived by one sister, Betty Jane Weikel; 2 sons, Jonathan David Weid of Phoenix and Timothy John Weid and his wife Stephanie of Phoenix; one grandson, Timothy Charles Weid and his mother, Tammy Battraw. Funeral services will be held in Warrenville, IL on December 13. A memorial service is scheduled for December 20, 2003 at 6:00 pm at the London Bridge Resort.
