Richard Lowell Baier, 68, passed away on December 31, 2003 at Desert Springs Hospital, Las Vegas, Nevada. He was born on July 19, 1935 in Hampton, Iowa to Miles William Baier and Fay "Fox" Baier.Richard was a Navy Journalist for the U.S. Navy for 20 years. He has been stationed in San Diego, California, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, New York, Trinidad and was honorably discharged on July 6, 1971 in Norfolk, Virginia. He received a Joint Service Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Viet Nam Campaign Medal. He served in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. After serving in the service he worked as a typesetter for McDonald-Eudy in Maryland. When he moved to Phoenix, Arizona he worked for Bowne and retired in 1997.He was a resident of Arizona for 10 years with the last 6 1/2 years in Lake Havasu City moving here from Temple Hills, Maryland. Richard enjoyed playing poker, watching movies, jazz music, computers and reading. He was also a member of St. Michael's United odist Church.Richard is survived by his loving wife of 14 years Janet Baier of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, sons Darrin Dziergowski and his wife Berta of Texas, Dean Dziergowski and his wife Kelley of Alabama, David Dziergowski and his wife Kim of Maryland, daughter Donna Rice and her husband Leon of Virginia, 4 mini dachshund children Paula, Heindrich, Heidi, Sigfried, brother in Law Walter Godlewski and his wife Marie of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, sisters Mila Garcia and her husband Gus of Iowa, Deanne Baier of Iowa, sister in law Gail Crawford and her husband Bob of Florida, aunt Velma Moore and her husband Bob of Phoenix, Az; aunt Margaret Rodgers of Phoenix, Az; 3 nieces, 2 nephews and 7 grand nieces and nephews.A memorial service will be held on Saturday January 17, 2004 at 1:00 P.M. at the Lietz-Fraze Chapel with Pastor Richard Rounds officiating.Donations are requested in his name to be given to Hospice of Havasu P.O. Box 597, Lake Havasu City, Arizona 86405-0597. Arrangements were entrusted to the Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home.
