Lula LeBon Teacher, Mentor, Civic Leader, Missionary/EvangelistLula was born in Glenwood, Ala., in 1914. She died on Tuesday the 4th, May 2004. Inurnment will be at Grace Episcopal Church Columbarium, Lake Havasu City on Friday the 14th, following the memorial service at 11:00am. Lula studied at Teachers' College, Columbia University and Julliad School of Music. Her musical talent enabled her to have a singing career, with performances at Carnegie Hall and the City Center of New York City. Her singing career was through Schola Cantorium of New York which was the Resident Chorus of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. Lula was employed by the Board of Education in New York City from 1958-1984. She worked as Supervisor of Music and Choral Director for 5th and 6th graders from five churches, and as a Junior High School Music teacher until she became a Teacher Recruiter for the office of College and Community Liaison of the Board of Education where she taught "Education in the Urban Setting". She was the Bureau head for Staff Counseling Office and Reviewing Officer for the Office of Appeals and Reviews, Division of Personnel. She retired in 1981 but continued to serve as Special Consultant to the Office of Appeals and Reviews.Lula was passionate about serving God and people, especially the young. She was always a faithful and involved member of her local Parish, her last Parish being Grace Episcopal Church, Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Towards the end of her days, Lula felt very happy and blessed because her friend Dr. Deloise Blakely enabled Lula to surround herself with a young person. She was most happy working with children and youth. Dr. Blakely facilitated this young woman (Neteshia) from N.Y. City of (Nu Future Foundation) to be her spiritual friend, helper and prayer partner, in her home, until the last day of her life. Arrangements were entrusted to Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home & Crematory
