Captain "Winky" Walker, 79, of Ketchikan, AK, passed away Friday, June 4, 2004. He was born January 15, 1925, in Ketchikan and spent winters in Lake Havasu City for many years.Winky served in World War II with the Coast Guard as a hardhat salvage diver. After the war he worked as a hardhat diver, then obtained his master's papers and was captain on various tugs and barges through Alaska. He then became a ship's marine pilot in southeast Alaska and piloted many cruise line ships, tankers and logging ships. He retired from the S.E. Alaska Pilot Association.He is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Audrey; daughters Janet Walker of Seattle, WA, Maureen Walker of Reno, NV; brother Elwood (Eva) Walker; sister Virginia Wells of California, Evelyn Hartzell of California; brother-in-law Gordon Young and sister-in-law Mary Jane Young of California.He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name to Hospice of Havasu, PO Box 597, Lake Havasu City, AZ 86405.Arrangements were entrusted to Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home & Crematory.
