Leora Hendrix Walker went to be with the Lord on June 23, 2004. She was born on August 24, 1925, to Eula and Marcus Hendrix in Newberry, South Carolina. Leora was one of ten children. In 1943 she left home at 18 years old to become the office manager of the Western Union office in Georgetown, SC. There she assisted in delivering important telegraph messages to President Roosevelt during the war. It was here that she met her future husband Charles V. Walker from Omaha, NE. Together they produced three children during their 53 year marriage. Passionate about her service for the Lord, she taught Sunday school at Calvary Baptist Church in Lake Havasu City, AZ; for over 20 years. She retired from teaching upon her diagnosis with cancer in May of 2003. Leora is preceded in death by her husband Charles, and survived by daughters Candice Chase and husband Eric, Cheryl Palmer and husband Bill, son Charles F. Walker and wife Mary, grandchildren Aaron, Brian, Kevin, Nicole, and Jessica, brothers Harold and Boyd, sisters Mae, Martha, Lillian, Betty and Fronie. Funeral services are to be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 1605 S. McCulloch Blvd; on Monday, June 28, 2004 at 10:00 AM,In lieu of flowers, the family suggest contributions be made in Leora's name to Calvary Baptist Church. Arrangements were entrusted to Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home and Crematory.
