Murrel Otis Short, 87, passed away July 3, 2004 in Lake Havasu City, AZ. He was born to Samuel and Jessie (Vines) Short on May 10, 1917 in Cucamonga, CA."Mo" as he was known by his family and friends was in the US Navy for 30 years, retired as Chief Machinist Mate. After he retired, he worked for the City of Santa Cruz for 20 years. He was a Pearl Harbor Survivor, participated in seven major sea battles in the South Pacific and earned the following metals; good conduct - 3 stars, the Navy unit commendation, the American Theater, Asiatic Pacific - 8 stars, WWII Victory medal, China Services, Japan Occupation, National Defense, Korea 7 Stars, United Nations and the Korean Presidential Citation. Mo was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, enjoyed camping, riding motorcycles and gardening. One of his favorite hobbies was making stained glass windows, which he loved sharing with his family and friends.Mo is survived by his best friend and soul mate of 30 years, Ida Kennedy of Lake Havasu; brothers, Calvin Short of Phoenix, AZ and Edward Short of Ridgecrest, CA.In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to go to the American Heart Association, 2929 South 48th St., Tempe, AZ 85012.Arrangements were entrusted to Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home & Crematory.
