Phillip Dennis "Butch" Comella died peacefully at home July 6, 2004 surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 22, 1938 in St. Joseph, MO to Mary & John Comella, the second of nine children. He was an A student in school, played football and worked while in high school. He learned to fly at the age of 18, and has flown single engine and glider planes ever since. He married the love of his life, Mary Moore, in 1960, and had three daughters, Carol, Mary and Pat. Phil & Mary raised their family in Lompoc, CA. Phil worked for General Telephone Company as a Special Equipment Installer. He enjoyed his work, and in his off time had many interests. Phil spent time in the National Guard as a young man, and has flown for the Civil Air Patrol in Missouri and in Arizona. He was a good woodworker, teaching himself the craft and creating many fine projects. Phil also learned welding after he retired. He enjoyed water skiing, sailing, snow skiing, hiking, camping and hunting. After retiring Phil & Mary moved to Lake Havasu, Arizona. There they joined the Lake Havasu Yacht Club, and worked as Site Stewards for the State of Arizona. Phil and Mary traveled when they could both in the United States and in Europe. Phil was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake Havasu City.Phil is survived by his loving wife, Mary, and their daughters and their families: Carol and Greg Nichols and children Katie, Randy and Kelly. Mary Comella and David Bradley and children Phillip and Seth. Pat Comella and Shawn Cortay. Phil is also survived by his brothers and sisters and their spouses: Mary Ellen and Don Mears, Michael and Jackie Comella, Marguerite Conley, Judy Comella, Cathy Caton, John Comella, Joe Comella, and Steve Comella of Missouri and Kansas, Christine and Wally Lowe and Joe and Linda Moore of Arizona, and George Moore of California. There are many other family members too numerous to name.Phil will be remembered as a good and caring man, quiet in manner, with a good sense of humor. He loved being outdoors, and enjoyed his time with his family and many wonderful friends. He enjoyed tinkering on things in his garage, and was always learning new things. Phil will be missed by everyone who knew him, and especially by his family.A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2004 at Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church at 11:00 AMThose who wish, can make a donation to Hospice of Havasu, PO Box 597, Lake Havasu City, AZ 86405.Arrangements were entrusted to Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home & Crematory.
