Dick Swartz, 78, passed away Mondy, July 12, 2004 at home in Lake Havasu City, AZ; with his loving family by his side. He was born August 10 1925 in Rapid City, SD; to Adolph August Swartz and Maida "McCoy" Swartz.Dick grew up in Rapid City until age 12, then moved to Berkley, CA; graduated high school there by the age of 15. His early hobbies included building and flying model airplanes, coin and stamp collecting, swimming and diving, performing magic tricks and reading. Many remained life long activities. He was involved with the Boy Scouts of America and was a scout master by age 15. He completed two years at U.C. Berkley, and at age 18, enlisted in the U.S. Navy, May of 1944. Dick was stationed on the U.S.S. Flint and honorably discharged June 1946. He then attended Oregon State University and graduated in 1949 with a degree in electrical engineering. While working at Boulder Dam, he met Marie C. Stewart. There were married on February 10, 1951 in Boulder City, NV. Dick was the Chief Engineer on many Hydro-electric nuclear and geo-thermal projects across the country and overseas. He loved his work. Dick was a very active man who loved to travel and enjoyed the great adventures of life. He was loved and will be remembered by many.Dick was a loving husband of 53 years, wonderful father, and world's greatest Grampa.He is survived by his wife Marie C. Swartz, sister Florence Bonander, children Richard Mark Swartz and wife Kathy, Jay Paul Swartz and wife Totsy, grandchildren Jill Kimberly Swartz, Matt McKinley, Cody Tyler Swartz and numerous nephews and nieces, special daughter Alice, all of the Ortega family and many friends.The L.H.C. "Speaker man has left the room."A memorial service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church on Friday, July 16, 2004 at 10:00 AM with Father David Richardson officiating.Arrangements were entrusted to Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home and Crematory.
