Murdoch James MacKenzie died in his sleep October 2 at Prestige Assisted Living. He was 81.Born in New York City on August 6, 1923. Murdoch married Marion, his beloved wife of 54 years in 1945. Together they adopted three sons, Murdoch, Jr. and twins, Bruce and Blair.Murdoch served in the infantry in WWII and completed a 26-month Italian tour of duty. He earned an engineering degree from Stevens University and a Masters in Engineering from the University of Michigan. In 1980, he retired from the Ford Motor Company after 30 years, where he headed the Ford Mercury engine engineering department.For the past 19 years, Murdoch lived in Lake Havasu City. He attended Mount Olive Lutheran Church and volunteered at Respite.Murdoch is survived by two sons, Bruce MacKenzie of Seattle, Washington, and Blair MacKenzie of New York, New York. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 8th at Mount Olive Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Mariners' Church, 170 E. Jefferson Ave., Detroit, MI 48226.Arrangements were entrusted to Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home & Crematory.
