Obituary of Fred Bird SMITH

Fred Da Bird SmithDecember 17, 1987 - October 18, 2004Fred, aka Fredders, passed away Monday night at her home in the arms of her mommers and dadders, Frank and Vickie.Almost 17 years, earlier when wanting a pet but not really crazy about birds, her mommers happened to walk into a place called "Bird Crazy" saw this adorable 6 week old Love Bird still wet, still needed to be fed by hand for a few more weeks, said "hey-what the heck" I'll take her. Shortly after only to find out that what a loving bird she could be, we both began thinking of her as not just a pet but part of our family and began loving her as a child.Having to find out the hard way that she refused to be handled except by the two of us we began taking her on our vacations. She loved road trips and even logged 45,000 air miles sitting beneath our seat in planes, she didn't care, she just wanted to be with the two of us. She had to be with her mommers during the day as that was when she wanted her kisses and hugs but soon as the sun went down it was bye-bye and hello dadders. It was time to play, fight, groom herself, then off to bed. Not knowing that she was a bird, her bed had to be two towels on top of her cage where she would sleep in between the two. She was such a silly girl.She brought so much love into our lives, and so much sorrow in our hearts when she closed her eyes and left us Monday night. She was worth every minute of it.We want to thank Doc, Keith and all the staff of Lange Veterinary for all your help and care you showed to Fred and us not just over the years but especially over the past couple of weeks so that Fred was able to be with us and leave with such grace while on her own terms.
