Obituary of David Ray Nelson

David Ray Nelson passed away with family by his side at the Polidori House - Hospice of Havasu on July 28; he was 80 years of age. He grew up in Wisconsin, joined the military at 17 years old and lived the next 21 years stationed throughout the world and the United States. He first served in the Korean War and then served three tours of duty in the Vietnam War. He was assigned to the US Navy and US Marine Corps, retiring at the Naval Air Station in Alameda, CA. David was wed to Shirley Tessier in Oconto Falls, Wisconsin; they were married for 54 years. He and Shirley loved to entertain family and friends. Over his lifetime he made many close friends. He loved boating and RVing with his wife. And loved his pets who joined them on their adventures. He made Parker, AZ his home for the last 15 years. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and the Eagles. David is survived by his children, Julie Terry, Scott Nelson and Jolene Cecil; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and his 3 dogs and 2 cats. He is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Nelson; parents, Florence and Raymond Nelson; brother, Hartley Nelson; and his dogs, Leo, Spanky, Sundance, Lady, Max, and Dolly. A celebration of Dave's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers or gifts, if you'd like, please make a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project or an animal rescue organization of your choice.
