Leonard R. Milne passed away in his home, Friday, January 21, 2005 after a lengthy illness. He was born in Mohave County in 1916 in the small mining town of Goldroad, near Oatman.Leonard graduated high school in California and spent the next few years working as a miner in Mohave County before returning to work in ship building in World War II. After the war, he got into the sheet metal industry, retiring in 1971. In 1972 Leonard moved to Lake Havasu City, where he owned and operated the Milne Rock Shop for eleven years. Along with running the rock shop, Leonard taught lapidary, faceting, silver-smithing and rock hound geology for some thirty semesters at Mohave Community College, until 1991. Leonard was a member of the Lake Havasu City Gem and Mineral Club since 1972, serving as club president three terms, and was also a long-time member of the Lake Havasu City Historical Society. He was involved with the incorporation of Lake Havasu City, and active in civic affairs throughout the years. He often provided Mohave County historical and mining information to various local groups. His passion and understanding of minerals, lapidary and rock-hounding continued to grow. He shared his vast knowledge in this field with anyone who showed interest.Leonard is survived by his wife Helen, sons Steve Milne of Tucson, AZ; Larry Milne of Costa Mesa, CA; three grandchildren, Scott and David Milne and Tammy Lacy, five great grandchildren and one step-great granddaughter.A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 7, 2005 at 1:00 pm at the Lietz-Fraze Chapel with Rev. David Bybee and Ford Richardson with the V.F.W. officiating.Any donations can be made in Leonard's name Hospice of Havasu, P.O.
