Obituary of Michael PORTESI

Michael Robert Portesi, 58, of Lake Havasu City, lost his fight with cancer Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at home with his family by his side. He was born April 11, 1946, in Los Angeles, CA to Al & Margaret Portesi. Mike served with the Military Police Division in the US Army from 1965 to 1968. He served as a Los Angeles County Sheriff for 30+ years where he worked Patrol at Temple City, City of Industry and other special tasks forces. He retired in July 1999 as a Detective in the City of Industry.Mike and his wife, Patti, moved to Lake Havasu in 2000 where he enjoyed his retirement but also worked security at the London Bridge Resort and Lake Havasu Marina. Mike began his membership with the El Monte Elks where he served two terms as Loyal Knight and continued his membership at the Lake Havasu City Lodge. Mike volunteered his time wherever his children needed him, either acting as his son's little league coach of serving on a committee at Arroyo High School where all three of his children attended classes. Mike married his wife, Patti in December, 1983 and created a loving and nurturing home together over the past 21 years. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, boating, riding his motorcycle, and spending time with his three granddaughters and goddaughter.Mike is survived by his wife Patti; sons, Chris Portesi of Hillsboro, OR and Sam Portesi of Portland, OR; daughter, Jennifer Hardwick of Foothill Ranch, CA; granddaughters, Nicole Moreno of West Jordan, UT and Alex & Emilie Portesi of Hillsboro, OR; sister, Toni Maloney of Alhambra, CA; numerous nieces and nephews; many friends; and K-9 companions, Goofy and Teddy.He was preceded in death by his parents Al & Margaret Portesi; and faithful dogs, George and Bear. A memorial service will be held in memory of our beloved Michael Portesi on Sunday, February 20, 2005 at 11:00 AM at the Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home located at 21 Riviera Blvd., Lake Havasu City, AZ 86403. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Michael Portesi's name to Hospice of Havasu, PO Box 597, Lake Havasu City, AZ 86405 or the Sheriffs' Relief Foundation, 11515 Colima Road, Whittier, CA 90604.Arrangements were entrusted to Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home & Crematory.
