Fred Mumford was born Edwin Valentine Lincoln Mumford on February 6, 1912 in Globe, Territory of Arizona. He passed away on June 15, 2005 in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. He was very proud of being born in Arizona before it became of state.Fred changed is name to Edwin Fred Mumford in 1965.His parents were Frederick John Mumford and Charlotte Marion Hyde. They immigrated from Cornwall, England to Globe, Arizona in 1907. His father died 23 days after Fred was born. His mother then married Edwin Gribbin from England.Fred married Esther M. Bymark in 1935. She died in 1977. They had no children. He then married V. Verona Jenkins Reeve on June 6, 1981. She passed away on October 31, 2003 in Lake Havasu City, AZ. She had 4 children by her first husband which survive: Sally J. Smith (Ronald) of Lake Havasu City, AZ; James A. Reeve (Alice) of San Diego, CA; Sondra L. Schwartman (Wayne) of Lincoln, NE; and Sharon K. Slater of Mesa, AZ. He is also survived by a foster son, David Reed (Barbara) of Brandon, FL; 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 3 nieces, 1 nephew and 24 great nieces and nephews. He was preceded n death by his parents, step-father, 2 sisters, Bessie Louise Harrison (Harry) and Ada Marjorie Fair (Claude) 2 nephews and 3 nieces.Fred received his education in Globe. His kindergarten school was a little white house on Devereaux Street in Globe. He also attended Noftsger Hill School and Globe High School.In his youth he was a projectionist for the movie theater in Globe. He went to work for Miami Cooper on the mill labor gang in 1943 and worked 16 years in the old Miami mill. In 1959 he went to work in the meat department of Miami Commercial. He became Assistant Fire Marshall at Copper Cities in 1964. Fred held his position until he retired in 1974. He served 30 years with the Volunteer Fire Department of Globe and was President of the State Fireman's Association in 1956. Fred was a 25+ year member of the Elks Lodge in Globe. He was a Life Member of Rescue Lodge #12, Independent Order of Odd Fellows and was a long time member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Country Club Manor, Globe. Fred and Esther lived at 265 Fairview in Globe from 1935 until she died in 1977. After Ester's death he and Verona married in 1981, they continued to live there until they moved to Mesa, AZ; in 1998. Fred was never tired of looking out over the town and seeing what was going on. He lived the last 4 years in Lake Havasu City, AZ; where he lived at Deb's Elder Care and Heaven Sent Assisted Living Home. He received wonderful care from Debbie, Gary, Michelle, Jena, Kathy and Linda. Funeral services were held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Claypool, AZ. He was laid to rest in Globe Cemetery along side his first wife, Esther.
