John "Buck" William Buckner, 97, passed away June 30, 2005 in Lake Havasu City at the assisted living home where he was residing. He was born June 9, 1908 in Marion, IL to Laura and Ed Buckner. John was one of three children.He worked all over the U.S, mostly as a mechanic. John served in the military in the US Army and the Navy Sea Bees during WWII in Hawaii and throughout the Pacific. He then reenlisted in to the service during the Korean War, taking him from Kansas to Washington State and then on to Fairbanks, AK to run the motor pool.John was a security guard for some years at early Crazy Horse Campground and was also a Deputy Sheriff of Mohave County. He had a summer home in Kingman, AZ, where he was active in Search and Rescue until a heart attack in 1991. After that he lived mainly in Lake Havasu to be close to his doctor and family.John's interests were car racing (sponsored them in Alaska), rodeoing (mostly watching his wife and step daughters perform) and wrestling (just to watch!).John is survived by two step daughters, Doris Wise and her husband Garland of Texas, D. Jean Fesler of Anchorage, AK; two sister-in-laws, Lucille Buckner of Lake Havasu, AZ and Mary Jo Pierce of Castroville, TX; a step niece, like a daughter, Ginny Brown of TX; step nephew, like a son, Wesley Skiles also of TX; nine grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, "Liz" Buckner in 2001 in Lake Havasu City, AZ.A private interment will take place at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Cave Creek, AZ.
