Erma Bertha (Dettling) Bertke Frerichs was born February 8, 1915 in Freedom Township, Washtenaw County, Manchester, MI and passed away October 24, 2005 at her home in Lake Havasu City, AZ. She was the daughter of Otto and Laura (Schettler) Dettling. After the age of 3 she was raised in Chelsea, MI by her grandmother, Christina Barbara (Hinderer) Schettler after her parents passed away. She was married to Roy Scott Bertke (1934 - 1965) and to Carl Leonard Frerichs (1973 - 1992) now both deceased.Erma graduated from Chelsea High School in Chelsea, MI in 1932. She was employed by the Chelsea School District as secretary to the principal of South Elementary School and also the principal of Chelsea High School until moving to Tucson, AZ, where she was employed by the Flowing Wells School District as manager of the High School Bookstore.Erma lived in Chelsea, MI until 1963 when she moved to Tucson, AZ. She lived in Pine Top, AZ until 1983 when she moved to Lake Havasu City, AZ until her death.She was a former member of St. Paul's UCC in Chelsea, MI, Rincon Congregational Church in Tucson, AZ, Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakeside, AZ and most currently, was a member of Our Saviour Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lake Havasu City, AZ. She enjoyed her many church activities and committees on which she served so faithfully. Her former and most current church families were very important to her. Her prayer life was very important to her and she touched many with the examples she set. She enjoyed being able to attend family reunions in both Michigan and Nevada and always looked forward to spending time with her family.Erma is survived by son, David (Phyllis) Bertke of Charlotte, NC; daughters, Barbara (Carl) Byrum of Jackson, MI and Marcia Westerbeke of Lake Havasu City, AZ; grandchildren, Heather Bertke of Ann Arbor, MI, Jeffrey Trolz and Angela Trolz of Jackson, MI and Terry (Tonya) Tolz of Lake City, MI, Ensign Adriana (Brandon) Montoya USN of San Diego, CA, Christina Westerbeke of Lake Havasu City, Scott Blonston of Charlotte, NC and Nancy (Mark) Goodman of Lakewood, CO; great grandchildren, Lauren Trolz and Nicholas Trolz of Lake City, MI and Gabriel Goodman and Jordan Goodman of Lakewood, CO and many nieces and nephews of many generations spread from coast to coast. She is also survived by stepsons, Dean Frerichs of New York and Gary Frerichs of California and several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.A celebration of Erma's life will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2006 at St. John's UCC, 801 S. Mechanic St., Jackson, MI and burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Freedom Township, Washtenaw County, Manchester, MI.In lieu of flowers donations in her memory can be made to the charity of your choice or Our Saviour Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 3163 Maricopa Ave., Lake Havasu City, AZ, St. John's UCC Memorial Fund, 801 S.
