Leona Bevan, long-time resident of Kingman, passed away at her home on Sunday, November 20, 2005. Born Leona May McLaughlin on July 18, 1925 to Wilbur and Nellie McLaughlin in Spiggard, Missouri, she was well-loved by family, friends and her church family.Although born in Missouri, she moved with her mother and father to Silver City, New Mexico as a child. She graduated from New Mexico State Teacher's College High School in Silver City, New Mexico in the spring of 1942. She then worked for the ration board in Silver City until her marriage to Dow Wilson in November of 1943. She and Dow lived in several states during their marriage before moving to Kingman in 1963. She started working for Charley to work for the State of Arizona and worked with them for over 20 years in various positions until she retired in 1990.She married James Bevan in 1971. She and Jim loved to camp and hunt. She loved to sew and made many beautiful items for her family members. She also loved to watch baseball and traveled many times to see the Diamondbacks in Phoenix, her favorite D-Back being Mark Grace. Her love for her animals was known by all who knew her.She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim in 1998, her father, Wilbur in 1966 and her mother, Nellie earlier this year. She is succeeded by her four children: Jan (Dale) Berridge of Tucson, Craig (Kay) Wilson of Burns, Oregon, Rebecca (Larry) Brooks of Kingman and Tim (Deborah) Wilson of Kingman. She also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren who will miss their Grandma very much. She also leaves behind a wonderful church family and many friends.Memorial services will be held in Kingman Church of Christ, on Robinson, Saturday, November 26, at 2:00 pm. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Kingman Church of Christ or Hospice of Kingman. Our family would like to thank Hospice for their love and care over Mama. We also want to thank her church family who have kept us in prayer and have visited her so often.
