Obituary of Walter Pflum

Walter Pflum, 96, of Lake Havasu City, Arizona passed away peacefully at 10:03 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015 at Havasu Regional Medical Center, Lake Havasu City. Walt was born Jan. 20th, 1919, in Tuscola, Illinois, son of George and Flora Rosenberger Pflum. He married Gwendolyn Tingley on April 15, 1944 in Pampa, Texas while serving in the U. S. Army Air Corp. After WWII, Gwen and Walt lived in Tuscola until he retired and moved to Arizona. Survivors include his wife, Gwen; his son, Eric of Lake Havasu City; grandchildren, Erin Ralston of Eugene, OR, Adam Pflum, M.D. of Winston-Salem, NC and Megan Pflum of New York City, and great-grandchildren, Ella and Addi Ralston of Eugene. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, George, Clarence, Harry and Harold and three sisters, Rosalie Rund, Madeline Stephens and Clara Yankovich. Walt retired as a supervisor after 30 years with USI Corporation. He and Gwen also owned and ran Gambles Hardware store in Tuscola. Walt was a lifetime member of the Elks Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Walt loved watching and talking sports and boasting what a great athlete he would have been had his father not insisted he work on the farm instead of participating in sports. He grew the best tomatoes in Illinois and enjoyed gardening even after his move to the Arizona desert. He was passionate about Lake Havasu, the Elks, and ballroom dancing. He and Gwen were often called "Fred and Ginger" by people who saw their amazing moves on the dance floor. His life was full of parties and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Lake Havasu City Elks Club at 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 15th. Condolences may be offered online at e_pflum@yahoo.com.
