"Fern" Grisham passed away quietly early Monday morning, October 16, 2006. She had been living with congestive heart failure, and was sometimes referred to as the bionic woman, with a dual pace maker, artificial knees, and hip. She was born in Deleon Texas in 1924, to a southern Baptist preacher, Buford (Boose) Thomas, and mother Bertha, who raised and established 11 churches in central Texas and southern Oklahoma in the 1950's and 60's. Fern with her husband J.D. Grisham moved to Lake Havasu City, AZ in 1967 to manage Lake Havasu City, Cove, now known as Crazy Horse Campground for Joe Coombs and Jim Quiggle, and Neil Peterson. Then they managed the Lake Havasu City Marina for almost 25 years for their daughter Linda, and Richard McCulloch.Fern and J.D. Grisham were founding members of Calvary Baptist Church which they hosted in their home for a season, and helped to build the original facility on So. McCulloch Blvd. Through the years, Fern served the church in many capacities, as a leader in Calvary. She played the piano, taught Sunday School, and served on various committees. "Fern modeled the love of Christ, compassion for people, and a generous spirit in everything that she did. Her faith was an inspiration for over 30 years", said Chad Garrison, pastor at Calvary Baptist.Fern is survived by her sons, Larry (Lyn) of Lake Havasu City, and Michael (Nancy) Grisham of Belton Texas and Grandsons Loren Dean (29) of Georgetown TX, and James Austin (27) Belton TX, Michael McCulloch, Scottsdale AZ, and Jeanne McCulloch, Las Vegas NV.Fern will be buried with services in DeLeon Texas on Saturday October 20, at 1.PM, and a memorial service will be held at the Calvary Baptist Church at 1605 McCulloch Blvd. on Saturday November 4th at 1PM.
