Carroll "Bruce" Carter was under Hospice care when he died quietly at his home early on December 4, 2006 with his wife and dedicated companions, Kokett and Krysti at his side; he was 90.Born on July 16, 1916 in Dripping Springs, TX; he was orphaned at 18 months when the flu epidemic claimed his mother and father, Fannie May Fowler and Joseph William Carter. Bruce was still a small child when his relatives moved to Lancaster, CA where he worked on a ranch and graduated from Antelope Valley Joint Union High School in 1934; he was immediately inducted into the United States Army to serve two years "overseas" in Hawaii at Schofield Barracks in their band.After working during World War II in the aircraft industries, Bruce started his 23 years with Kwikset Locksets, Inc. in Anaheim, CA where he became supervisor of their experimental and research shop until his retirement in 1976. Bruce and Dorothy were happily married in 1942, and she survives him.Bruce was a member of BPOE Elks Lodge, volunteered with the Orange County Sheriff's Aero Squadron, was a member of the flying club, Skylarks of Southern California, and was a life member of the National Rifle Association.There are to be no services and the cremated remains are to be scattered.Donations may be made in his name to Hospice of Havasu, PO Box 597, Lake Havasu City, AZ 86405 or Western Arizona Humane Society, 1100 Empire Dr., Lake Havasu City, AZ 86404.Arrangements were placed under the care of Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home & Crematory.
