Leonard S. "Lenny" Hero, 80, passed away December 28, 2006 in Lake Havasu City, AZ. He was born to Michael and Marion (Wentworth) Hero on June 11, 1926 in Jersey City, N.J.Music was Lenny's life. He had his first 14 piece band at the age of 16. After high school, he joined the United States Navy and when they discovered he played baritone sax, they sent him to Washington D.C. and then to the Panama Canal in the entertainment division where they greeted ships returning from battle. After the war, he attended Julliard School of Music and then went on the road. He went to instrument repair school; then moved to Phoenix where he headed the repair department for many years at Otto Stein Music. Lenny moved to Havasu in 1979 and opened his own retail and repair ship. He repaired instruments for schools and colleges all around the state until he retired in 2005. He had his own 14 piece band in Lake Havasu for many years, "The Lenny Hero Band". He played all woodwind instruments and entertained at top spots in the state. Lenny was also an associate member of the London Bridge Republican Women's Club.Lenny is survived by his beloved wife of 24 years, Sally; sons, John Eggers of Lake Havasu and Henry Eggers of Brea, CA; sister, Mona (Church) Snyder of Delaware; brother-in-law, Jim Myhre of Delaware and two grandchildren, Claire and David Eggers.A visitation will take place Tuesday, January 2, 2007, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM, followed by the funeral services at 2:00 PM at Lietz-Fraze Chapel. Interment will follow the services at Lake Havasu Memorial Gardens. The VFW Post 9401 and American Legion Post 81 will conduct full military honors.In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Hospice of Havasu, PO Box 597, Lake Havasu City, AZ 86405.Thoughts and condolences may be submitted to the family at www.lietz-frazefuneralhome.comArrangements were placed under the care of Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home & Crematory.
