Albert (Al) J. Spangler was born to Bert and Georgia Spangler on February 1930 in Carlinville, IL. In Illinois he was known as Bud because of his friendly personality. He joined the Navy on his 17th birthday and later decided to make a career of the service. He became a Dental Tech and was stationed in Washington State, Hawaii, California, and sailed throughout the world. He served with a mobile hospital unit in Vietnam.
While in San Diego, he met and married Jill from Roseburg, OR on June 20, 1970. When Al retired from the Navy in October 1971, they moved to Oregon where Al graduated from the U of O and went to work in Roseburg.
In 1992, Al retired from his job and we moved to Lake Havasu City to enjoy the sun. Every morning, Al like to go walking a 4 mile trek around the neighborhood and returned home to do Intarsia Woodworking in his shop. While working in his shop he loved watching any and every sport on TV. While relaxing he greatly enjoyed reading.
Al is survived by his wife, Jill of 45 years of marriage. Also, survived by his sons, Cliff Bickford (Pam) of Mill Creek, WA, and Mike Spangler (Connie) of Satsuma, AL; daughters, Karen Rogers of Santa Fe, NM, Jessica (Ray) Bluff of Prescott, AZ and Maggie (Tony) Pinon of San Diego, CA; 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Pearl (Frank) Kessinger of Edwardsville, IL; brother, Terry Spangler of Carlinville, IL; his brother-in-law, Norman Gibbs of Modesto, IL. Al was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Lee Spangler; his sisters, Linda Gibbs and Helen (Glenn) Fones.
Al never knew a stranger and was friendly to everyone. He also often told people he had never had it so good and if he was any better he would have to be twins. He greatly loved all of his family and spent any vacations visiting family and friends.
