Charles Raymond HunnicuttJanuary 13, 1927 - March 14, 2008Charles "Ray" Hunnicutt passed away Friday March 14th at his daughter's home in Parker. He was born in Powell, Wyoming in 1927. He enlisted in the Army in 1944 after being less than truthful about his age and was shipped off to the South Pacific Islands to await the invasion of Japan only months after marrying his sweetheart Esther Brohough.Following his Honorable Discharge from the Army at the rank of Sergeant, he made his living in the Dry Cleaning business until the 1960's when he discovered his innate talent as a salesman. This talent blossomed after he and wife Red stepped onto an airplane for a "Free" trip to a new town in the Arizona desert where they bought property.Ray went to work for Holly Development Company here in Lake Havasu City in 1967 selling undeveloped property to people who traveled here on those "Free" flights and continued to do so until the flight program shut down in the early 70's, making him one of the early pioneers of the city.Following the Holly Flight Program Ray continued to sell, but not Real Estate. He formed Havasu Business Management and went on to sell himself, managing numerous condominium association properties over the next twenty plus years until his retirement (sort of) in 1999.Many people called Ray their friend, not the least of which were his family. Wife Red, who preceeded him in death in 2000 was also his partner in the numerous businesses ranging from Kings Way Gourmet Meats in the 70's to H&R Block offices up and down the Colorado River. His passions in life were numerous and included Amateur Ham Radio, motorcycles and flying. He had a talent for sharing his love of things with his children whether it was flying with son Joe or helping daughter Jan earn her Ham license. He was a man who could use his talents as a "Professional Salesman" to generate excitement in others, all the while letting them think it was their idea. He will be missed by many.Ray is survived by daughter Jan Hunnicutt and her children Darrell, Jenny and Michael of Parker, son Joe and wife Teri of Cody Wyoming and their children Shylah and Shawn, he was also blessed with 3 great grandchildren.Services will be held on Saturday March 22nd at Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home at 2 pm.
