Obituary of Nels Christian Johnson

NELS CHRISTIAN JOHNSON Nels Christian Johnson passed away December 12, 2013 in Lake Havasu City, AZ at the age of 91. He was born May 7, 1922 in Moorhead, IA to his late parents Adolph Bernt Johnson and Minnie Peterson Sonberg. Nels enlisted in the US Army Air Corps in November 1940 and was assigned to Italy during WWII as a B-24 crew chief. After the war, he re-enlisted in the USAF and flew with a C-54 Troop Carrier Squadron in the Berlin Airlift. He served in the Korean War and ended his 20 year military career with a tour in Thule, Greenland. He retired to California, spent some time in Washington, and made the move to Lake Havasu City 29 years ago. Nels was preceded in death by his wife, M. Ruth Johnson. He is survived by his children, Suzanna Davenport of Nacogdoches, TX, Pamela Roberts of Turlock, CA, and David C. Johnson of Plano, TX, and by a sister, Katherine Coleman of Fort Wayne, IN.
