James Kristjen Huenergardt passed away on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 in Lake Havasu City at the age of 67. Jim was born on January 7, 1941 in Omaha, NE to Otto and June (Savage) Huenergardt.Jim graduated from Palm Springs High School in 1958. He went on to attend Fresno State College, San Diego City College and San Diego State College ultimately earning his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Industrial Education from UCL in 1965. He continued his education at UCLA, receiving his Masters of Arts degree in photography in 1970. One year later, he obtained his teaching credentials, also from UCLA.He began his teaching career in 1965 as a Junior High School, High School and Vocational School educator, specializing in photography, graphic arts, drafting, woodworking and industrial landscaping. He taught at Palm Springs High School and the College of the Desert, but spent the majority of his teaching career with the Hacienda-La Puente School District.In 1988 Jim moved to Hawaii and worked with the Governors Commission on People with Disabilities and the Centers for Independent Living where he conducted surveys on handicapped accessibilities, prior to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) went into effect.In 1991, Jim moved from Hawaii to Lake Havasu City and worked for several years at Mohave Community College instructing his students in photography. He also became involved in home tutoring children with special needs.When Jim was not busy teaching, he enjoyed the occasional trip out on the lake to do a little fishing. But Jim's true passion was photography, which he enjoyed passing along his knowledge to his students.Jim is survived by his wife of seven years, Joanna Huenergardt of Lake Havasu City; son, David (Monique) Huenergardt of Lawrenceville, GA; daughter, Tracy Martin of Alpharetta, GA; sister, Lisa Korell of Agua Dolce, CA and his four grandchildren, Thomas Kristjen Huenergardt, William Robert Huenergardt, Michael James Huenergardt and Hanna Elizabeth Martin.Thoughts and condolences may be submitted to the family at www.lietz-frazefuneralhome.comArrangements were placed under the care of Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home & Crematory.
