Thomas Nelson Van Pelt passed away on Friday, January 9, 2009 in Las Vegas, NV at the age of 69. He was born on October 27, 1939 in Marion County, WV to Horace and Mable (Scott) Van Pelt.Following graduation from high school, Tom enlisted in the United States Army on March 14, 1958 and proudly served his country for almost 3 years, being honorably discharged on February 27, 1961. Tom worked as a machine repairman for the Ford Motor Company in Walton Hills, OH for 30 years. Upon his retirement from Ford, Tom and his wife, Shirley moved from Northfield, OH in search of a warmer and dryer climate and made Lake Havasu City their home nine years ago. Moving to Havasu gave Tom the opportunity to take up golf, becoming a member of the London Bridge Golf Club, playing three to four times a week. Tom made many friends at the golf course and would house sit for them when they left for the summer. At home in his spare time, he enjoyed playing computer games.Tom is survived by his wife of 46 years, Shirley; sons, Kevin of Atlanta, GA, Brian of Stow, OH and Mike of Maple Heights, OH; brother, James Van Pelt of Tallmadge, OH; sisters, Lorraine Moore of Tallmadge, OH and Delores Moore of Fairview, WV, as well as his six grandchildren, Nick, Paige, Zack, Kennedy, Jeremiah and Monica.Memorial services will be held on Friday, January 16, 2009 at 1:00 PM at Calvary Baptist Church.
