Mildred "Midge" Aker Cooper, a Lake Havasu resident since 1979, died of pneumonia on January 14, 2009. Midge was 88 year old. She was born on October __ 1920 to Hazel and Otis Pickering. Midge grew up on the family farm in Michigan, the eldest of eight children, seven sisters and one brother. She married the love of her life, Howard Aker in 1940. When World War II started, Howard enlisted in the U.S. Navy and Midge worked at the Willow Run Bomber Plant as a riveter on the B24 Aircraft. She was one of a group of ladies that were affectionately known as "Rosie the Riveters".Howard and Madge had two daughters, Glenda (Corky) and Cindy Ray. The family moved to Lakewood, CA; in 1945. She worked as an administrative secretary at Rheem-Aerojet General for 18 years. In 1974 her beloved Howard, died of a brain tumor. Midge married again in 1977 to Clarence Cooper. The moved to Lake Havasu City, AZ; and enjoyed nine happy years in retirement, until he died in 1986.Midge held membership in the National Honor Society, Havasu Regional Hospital Auxiliary, Long Beach Hospital Auxiliary, a member of Kappa Phi Sigma, Friends of the Library, Havasu Birthday Club, Western Welcome and TOPS.Midge is survived by her daughters, Corky Cooper (Bob) and Cindy Aker Hall (John); grandsons, Rob Cooper, Randy Cooper (Nicole), Christopher Donals; great grandchildren, Nathan, Nolan and Noelle Wolack-Cooper, Austin, Riley and JT Cooper; Daniel, Dillon and Katelyn Donals. She is also survived by brother, Jimmy Pickering and sisters, Minnie Hill, Charlene Rothman, Patty Cumberworth, Donna Stephens and Sallye Studebaker. Midge was preceded in death by husbands, Howard Aker, Clarence Cooper; grandson, Ryan Cooper and sister, Bobbie Best.Midge loved reading, quilting, painting, her precious dog, Dollie, and her friends. But what she treasured most was her family.A memorial service will be held at Lake Havasu Baptist Church on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. Words of wisdom and inspiration will be expressed by Pastor Mike Moorhead.Condolences and thoughts can be made to her family at www.lietz-frazefuneralhome.comArrangements were placed under the care of Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home and Crematory.
