LEONARD C. BRASHEAR, was 85 years old when he passed away peacefully at Havasu Regional Medical Center on February 7, 2009. He was born on August 25, 1923, in Los Angeles, California to Frank and Martha Brashear. Leonard grew up in Highland Park, California and attended Franklin High School. During World War II, he served as a corporal in the U.S. Army, stationed at Fort Baker, California. He met and married the love of his life, Vera Brashear, on December 10, 1944, while they were both stationed at Fort Baker. They relocated to Alhambra, California, and raised their family there. Leonard and Vera relocated to Lake Havasu City in 1989. Leonard spent his entire working career at the Los Angeles Times. Upon retirement, he was the supervisor of the composing room. His main hobbies were fishing; he especially loved salmon and trout fishing and skeet shooting, for which he won many awards for his skill. He was a lifelong member of the Masons and more recently, the Elks. He was a loving husband and father; and was very proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Leonard is survived by his wife, Vera; his two daughters, Karen Baltier-Long and Diane Stevens; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
