Helen "Ellie" Whelchel, 48, passed away on February 19, 2009 in Lake Havasu City, AZ. She was born on July 27, 1960 in Chicago, IL; to Irving and Jean (Hartley) Collins.Ellie moved from Garden Grove, CA; to Lake Havasu City, AZ; in 1990, after visiting the area since 1978. She loved the city, especially the lake. Ellie was loved by all that knew her. Many children loved her and knew her from day care. She was always smiling and outgoing. Ellie was employed by Mohave Mental Health Clinic, Inc., and was a case manager for children. She was an asset to the community and will be greatly missed. Ellie was also involved with her husband, Jeff in the various car clubs. She loved the hot rods, car shows, and the nostalgia of the 70's. Ellie loved her sister, Christine, adored her niece Teena and cherished her nieces and nephews.She is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, Jeff Whelchel, sister, Christine Johnston; niece, Teena Nordnan; nephew, Archie Johnston; grand nieces, Brianna, Giovana, Carina, Nathalia and grand nephew, David. A memorial service will be held at Lietz-Fraze Chapel on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. Condolences and thoughts can be made to her family at www.lietz-frazefuneralhome.comArrangements were placed under the care of Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home and Crematory.
