Douglas Clinton Johnson passed away last Saturday morning, March 7, 2009 in Lake Havasu City. Doug is survived by his wife Vel; his son Steve; his brothers Willard and Casey Johnson and sister Bonnie Grub. Doug was born in Onamia Township, Minnesota on April 5, 1915. He grew up in an era of self-sufficiency, living a hard life on the northern frontier; farming, hunting, trapping and fishing to keep the family together during the first great depression. After Pearl Harbor, Doug joined the Army Air Corps. He served as a Staff Sergeant through the end of WWII and into the Occupation; seeing things through to the end was something he has always done. After the war, Doug built a career with Cooper-Bessemer in Mt. Vernon, Ohio. Upon retirement, Doug and his family moved to Lake Havasu City, Arizona where he found new friends and neighbors to care about. As a husband and father Doug provided a good life for his family and continues to protect them after his passing. Doug was a charter member of the "Greatest Generation" and no other words can better describe him than that.A memorial service will be held this Friday, March 13, at 1:00 p.m. at the Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home on Riviera Blvd. in Lake Havasu City.Thoughts and condolences may be submitted to the family at www.lietz-frazefuneralhome.comArrangements were placed under the care of Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home & Crematory.
