Ernest Grant Cooper passed away at his residence on March 14, 2009 at the age of 69. Ernie or "Pop-I" as many knew him, was born on December 4, 1939 in Murray, UT to Albert and Elva (Peay) Cooper.Ernie grew up in Murray and attended Murray High School. He was a resident of the Salt Lake Valley and went to school to learn and work on Johnson outboard motors which led to owning his own marine repair shop. Ernie also enjoyed astronomy, wrote poetry and enjoyed music. He loved the outdoors as well, exploring the desert in their home-built desert cars with his friends, or going boating on the lake.Pop-I had an infectious smile and a warm personality. His presence among his family and friends will be deeply missed.Pop-I is survived by his daughters Laura Brown of Sandy, UT, Chanda Hardy of Murray, UT and Leslie Cooper of Chandler, AZ; brother, Edward Cooper of South Weber, UT and four grandchildren, Mikele, Lacey, Lindsey and Alex. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Mark Cooper and brother, Wayne Cooper.A celebration of Ernie's life will take place on Thursday, March 19, 2009 beginning at 5:00 pm at the home of his friend, Tom Otero, 2041 Oak Dr.In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in Ernie's name to a charity of your choice.Thoughts and condolences may be submitted to the family at www.lietz-frazefuneralhome.comArrangements were placed under the care of Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home & Crematory.
