Bert Leno Sorensen passed from this earthly existence August 18, 2009. He was born to Alma Marinus Sorensen and Ruth Amy Tolley Sorensen April 25, 1926 in Payson, Utah. He spent his early years in Benjamin, UT until the family moved to Burley, ID. On Feb 29, 1944, while in high school, he joined the Navy. He served in the Pacific Theater during the waning days of WWII. Upon his return and after graduating from college he met and married his lifelong companion, Dorothy Mae Bonner, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho on Feb 10, 1951. He was a dedicated husband and father. They began their family and worked and lived in Spokane, WA, Coeur d'Alene and Clarks Fork Idaho. In 1959 the family moved to Niagara Falls, NY where he began his career with Parson's Main Engineering. With Parson's Main he lived in 35 towns and cities in New York State, Massachusetts, Connecticut, West Virginia and Utah; as well as Hudson's Hope in northern British Columbia, Canada and David, Panama giving Dorothy and Bert the opportunity to meet a myriad of colorful acquaintances and gather friends lasting his lifetime. Upon retirement, they settled in Lake Havasu City, AZ. Bert served in a variety of positions for his church and was a devoted member.His parents Alma and Ruth Sorensen, twin brothers Alma Tolley and Elmer Tolley, twin sisters, Nelda Tadlock and Melva Coffey, and sister Fern Tremayne, preceded him in death. Bert and Dorothy were blessed with five children. He is survived by his wife of 58 years; children, David Leno Sorensen and wife Paula of Pasco WA; Debra Sorensen and husband Bill Levy of Rochester, NY; twin daughters, Judy Hammar and husband Ulf of Grillby, Sweden and Joan Taylor and husband Russ of Cedar City, UT; and James Harold Sorensen and wife Marie of Lake Havasu City, AZ. He also leaves 16 adoring grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, and many extended family members. Special thanks go to dear friends the Oldham's, Cook's, and Cooper's. The family would like to thank the caregivers at New Hope Hospice for their gentle and tender care. A visitation will be held from 9:00 to l0:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, located at 504 N Acoma Blvd, in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, on Saturday, August 22, 2009. Services will follow at 10:00 a.m. Bert will be interned at a later date with Military Honors at the Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, NV. In lieu of flowers, his family has requested that donations be made to New Hope Hospice, 500 N.
