Please share a memory of Vera to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
VERA MAE BRASHEAR, was 88 years old when she passed away at Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada on September 25, 2009. She was born on January 2, 1921, near Farmersville, Texas to John and Rachel Martin. Vera grew up in Texas, but moved to California after she joined the Women's Army Corps (WAC) during World War II. She was stationed at Fort Baker, in Northern California, where she worked as a cook. While there she met Leonard Brashear, a corporal in the U.S. Army who was also stationed at Fort Baker at that time. They married on the base on December 10, 1944. After completing their service to their country, they relocated to Alhambra, California, and raised their family there. Leonard and Vera relocated to Lake Havasu City in 1989. Vera's main hobbies were reading, crossword puzzles, knitting, and of course, she was a wonderful cook. She was also a true animal lover - especially dogs and cats. She was a loving wife and mother, and was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Leonard passed away on February 7, 2009. Vera is survived by her two daughters, Karen Baltier-Long and Diane Stevens; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Havasu, PO Box 597, Lake Havasu City, AZ 86405 or the Humane Society, 1100 Empire Dr., Lake Havasu City, AZ 86404.Condolences and thoughts can be made to her family at www.lietz-frazefuneralhome.com.
