Durwood Zaelke Sr. passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 8, 2009 in Lake Havasu City, AZ at the age of 88. He was born on March 30, 1921 to Dewey and Gladys (Weppler) Zaelke in Aberdeen, S.D.Durwood proudly served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. Following his time in the military, he went on to be a piano man in Los Angeles, CA. He moved to Lake Havasu City in 1990 where he continued to make people smile with his music. Some of his more notable fans were Howard Hughes and Frank Sinatra. Music and family were everything to Durwood. He was president of the Lake Havasu Shriners club in 1993.Durwood married his beloved bride, Mary Jo O'Hare on April 6, 1942 in Laverne, MN. She preceded him in death in 2000.Durwood leaves behind is children, Diane Zaelke, of Palm Springs, CA, Durwood Zaelke, Jr. and his wife Barbara Shaw, of Washington, DC, Dorian Zaelke and his wife Pamela Zaelke, of Fairfax, VA, Darcy Zaelke, of Walnut Creek, CA, Dustin Zaelke, of Arlington, VA; as well as seven grandchildren, Tracy, Todd, Heather, Amber, Justin, Cody, Debbie and 10 great-grandchildren.Thoughts and condolences may be submitted to the family at www.lietz-frazefuneralhome.comArrangements were placed under the care of Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home & Crematory.
