Ethel Minnie Hartman aka "Ethel the Great" passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at her granddaughter's home Amanda and Jonathan Noble's home in Lake Havasu City, AZ. She was born on 2-4-24 in Long Prairie Minnesota, to John and Margaret Oltman.Ethel served her country in World War II as a U.S. Navy Wave. She settled in Long Beach California, where she raised two children and worked for McDonnel Douglas helping to build DC-9's airplanes .Her move to Lake Havasu City, AZ; to be closer to family, which lead her to becoming a 12 year resident. Ethel was a faithful long standing member of Beta Sigma Phi. She was very artsy, crafty and was very talented at making many different kinds of blankets and quiltsShe is survived by her son Mark Hartman, her son in law, Eddie Graham, who's mother-son relationship began when he started dating her daughter at the age of 15. Her pride and joy were her grandkids, Mandy, Kody, Mark, Marcy, Lacy, Brandon and was a very proud great grandma of 10. She was preceded in death by her daughter Nancy Graham, whom she greatly missed and who passed away from breast cancer in 2006.In the 85 years that Ethel lived on this earth, she lived a full life with and "lots" of friends and many loving family members. She traveled all over the United States, visited Australia and Europe, and cruised Hawaii and the Caribbean. One of her biggest attributes is that she would give you the shirt off of her back if asked for it. Ethel was so full of spirit and laughter and always had a sharp witty comment to share. She was a woman of strength and heart. "Ethel the Great will be greatly missed by all of her family members and hope and pray that she is with Jesus on his birthday. Christmas was her favorite time of year and giving came naturally to her. She is famous for her jewelry Christmas tree that is hung all year around. Ethel's spirit lives in each of us and we are blessed to have had such a wonderful life with her. A memorial will be held on Christmas Eve with close friends and family members at her Clearwater house.Ethel would say, "HAVE A BLAST WHILE YOU LAST" and "Somebody said it couldn't be done…but he with a chuckle replied… Maybe it couldn't... but he wouldn't be one… who wouldn't say no … till he tried" Hospice of Havasu has been so good to her over the years.
