In July of 2012, John and Linda took me on their ATVs up to Black Butte. I felt like I was in the opening scene of "The Sound of Music"! It was a day I will never forget, and I am so thankful for it. I was always amazed by John -- he had skills and knowledge in areas that I, or no one I've known, knew anything about -- hunting, fishing, landscaping (with BIG boulders), camping in the mountains, mining, and I'm sure many other things that I'm not aware of. He was, and is, a very special person and I am so honored to have been able to spend time with him. (Amy Phillips, Dan's wife).

John was a remarkable man . We were so privileged to call him friend and companion.
We enjoyed every day spent with John and Linda in the mountains on trails and our favorite lunch spots just enjoying God's creation and fresh air just visiting with each other and sharing precious moments. Dean will especially cherish the memories of hunting with John and just being with him. We are thankful to God for his life with us. We are looking forward to seeing him over the great divide and happy hunting grounds.
God Bless and comfort all his family. May all the happy memories ease the pain of his departure.

I worked with John for over 15 years. He was a kind and compassionate supervisor. John looked forward to his retirement years, and I am so happy that he was able to enjoy quality golfing, fishing and family time during those years. I know, Linda, that you will miss him very much. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Blessings and Peace, Carol Scott

When people spoke of John they always said, "He is such a good person." John was a wonderful brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was a deeply kind person, devoted and loyal to his family and friends. He loved the outdoors and hunting and fishing. When he learned of his illness he told me, "I have lived a good life, I got to live where I wanted to, do the things I wanted to, and have a wonderful family. What more could anyone ask for in life?" Linda mentioned his sense of humor and he really was the king of the pun! They emerged at the strangest times and always cracked us up! He was such a strong, vibrant, person, so full of life. I only learned recently how wide his circle of help and caring extended to so many people. His humility was genuine and he was reluctant to talk about the many ways he helped others. He lived his faith and taught us by his deeds, not just his words. My wonderful brother was one of the best persons I have ever known. He blessed us all by his presence in this world. We will miss you, John, more than mere words can describe.
Your grateful brother, Dan

I go to church with Bob & Kathy Strebel. Kathy & Bob have been constantly sharing John's status about the dreadful "C" word. In fact, it was December of last year that our 6PM church folks starting taking this journey with you, John & Linda. Almost weekly we felt your ups & downs & carried everything to the Lord in prayer.
I feel a kinship with you now. John, I know you are perfect now. Good for you. Linda, lean on your family & place your fears, tears & hopes in God
God Bless you all! Bob & Kathy, I'm shooting a prayer of solace up for you, right now!

John was the best brother a girl could ask for. He babysat me, taught he how to ride my bike, taught me how to swim and float, protected me from bats in our bedroom, gave me away at my wedding and many other heroic deeds. He always made me laugh and played a huge part in making my childhood a happy time. Through adulthood he continued to offer his love and support in good times and bad, always without judgement.
I love you John. You did a good job! Well done! I will see you on the other side.
