Obituary of Edward Louis Brown

Edward Louis Brown, 85, Lake Havasu City, passed away at home on November 29, 2015. He was born to Richard S. and Eleanor M. Brown in Scituate, Massachusetts on May 24, 1930. Ed built his first racecar in 1948 and spent the next 10 years running the sprint and midget circuit on major tracks east of the Mississippi. He achieved the title of New England Sprint Car Champion in 1958. Ed was also a U.S. Army Veteran. He married Francis Hannaford, his loving wife of 46 years until her passing in 2004. A master carpenter, Ed designed and built their family home. He later became a noted machinist and formed his own company producing precision cutting tools for international companies. Community minded Ed was elected President of the local Kiwanis Club and achieved 3rd degree status in the Masonic Lodge in MA. In 1975 Ed moved his family and business to Havasu. He earned his pilot's license and logged hundreds of hours flying in the area. He was co-founder of the local Experimental Aircraft Association. An avid golfer, Ed loved playing and even scored a hole in one. He became a racetrack official at the Havasu 95 Speedway. In his 70's he purchased a vintage midget racecar and performed at exhibition races with the Western Racing Association. Ed is survived by his brothers, Fred Brown and Pete Brown of Massachusetts, Jeff Brown of LHC; daughter, Cindy (Tony) Macis of LHC; son, Terry (Teresa) Brown of LHC; 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Brown. Huge thanks to the Hospice of Havasu staff and family friend, Kathy Vickery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice of Havasu.
